A POST ABOUT GAMZEE BY QUINKIT THAT ISN’T ABOUT HOW MUCH HE SUCKS (its a theory)
IMPORTANT NOTE i am sick and really tired so i’m sorry if this post ended up being a poorly written incoherent mess.
In Act 5, Gamzee was called the most important character in Homestuck. It’s obviously meant to initially be read as a joke, since at the time Gamzee is nothing more than a gag character based entirely around ICP and their song “Miracles,” while at the same time being strangely ominous given Gamzee’s condition in the panel. A bloody, wounded Gamzee smiling at the imminent destruction of Jade’s home is an image significantly less lighthearted then most readers would expect from the goofy stoner comic relief character. And yeah it turns out he’s actually super important and all his religious miracle bullshit is actually relevant to the plot and I wasn’t thrilled about it but whatever this post isn’t about my strong personal feelings towards a fictional clown okay it’s a SUPER SERIOUS THEORY POST BY QUINKIT DO NOT STEAL.

The first flash he was in went pretty in depth as to why he’s a completely unlikeable person who has no good qualities whatsoever. Remember that Cronus is just a minor character and the narrative has much more important things to focus on than him. Characters like Vriska and Eridan had a ton of time to show different facets of their personality and change our opinions of them, but the Alpha Trolls are mostly just incidental joke characters whose main purpose is foreshadowing events for more important characters.
With the very little time he had to characterize him, Andrew decided to use it to portray him in the absolute worst possible light. He’s a sleazy “Nice Guy” who thinks he deserves to get laid for putting forth all that effort into being nice. Half of Cronus’s introduction was spent showing him bullying, harassing, and talking about how much he wanted to murder a mentally handicapped man for being worthless while Mituna begged him to stop and apologized for his behavior. Cronus isn’t a rapist, but he’s still an awful, unlikable person in every way possible. If we were meant to see him any other way, Andrew would have written him differently with the time he had.
Also he composed “punkin party in sea hitlers vwater apocalypse” which for all we know could be total shit compared to the original song.
